Moohammara/ Muhammara - Traditional Lebanese Appetizer

Ingredients

  • Servings: 4
  • 1/2 cup walnuts
  • 1 medium onion, quarterd
  • 1/4 cup pomegranate molasses (or juice)
  • 3 roasted red peppers or 4 tablespoons red pepper paste
  • 1/2 cup olive oil
  • 1/2 cup vegetable oil
  • crushed dried pita bread

Recipe

  • 1 in food processor, combine onions and walnuts.
  • 2 gradually pour in the pomegranate molasses, mix in the peppers or paste.
  • 3 as slowly as possible, add both the olive and vegetable oil to the mixture while the machine is running.
  • 4 gradually add bread crumbs until the mixture turns into a thick paste. drizzle with olive oil and serve with pita wedges, crackers or cut vegetables.
